Honors Minor in Collaborative Discovery
PURPOSE & BENEFITS
Whatever you do after graduating from Virginia Tech, you will face complex, global challenges: problems that go far beyond the ability of any single discipline to solve, such as climate change, sustainability, homelessness, health care, hunger, refugees, and poverty. Employers, especially, seek graduates who have overt instruction and experience in transdisciplinary, collaborative problem-solving, which is not typically found within disciplinary majors.
Pursuing the Honors Minor in Collaborative Discovery will both help you stand out from the crowd and prepare you for “what’s next.” By completing the Honors Minor, you will:
- Automatically also complete the Honors Laureate Diploma
- Add considerable value beyond your disciplinary education
- Gain a deeper understanding of the productive value of disciplinary differences and harness those differences through transdisciplinary collaboration
- Become an extremely valuable and desirable colleague wherever you may go after graduating
Being effective in any domain will require you to work effectively with others who have fundamentally different ways of understanding and responding to professional and public issues. The Honors Minor in Collaborative Discovery will prepare you for this critically important work. A student who completes the Honors Minor will also earn the Honors Laureate Diploma designation. These credentials will appear on their transcript and their university diploma, respectively.
