Student Council

The Honors College Student Council serves as an advisory group to the Dean of the Honors College and is representative of the greater Honors College student body. The Council seeks to foster productive relationships between the Honors College, academic colleges, and the greater university to optimize students’ opportunities to pursue their passions and explore their educations.

Hi everyone! My name is Lauren Weaver and I’m a senior pursuing a B.A. in Spanish, a B.S. in Biological Sciences, and a B.S. in Clinical Neuroscience. I’m a recipient of the Calhoun Liberal Arts Scholarship and have served the Honors College as a peer mentor and Apartment Fellow in the Honors Residential Commons, in addition to serving a second year as an advisor in the Honors Peer Advising Center. Outside of Honors, I’m the Lead Activities Director and Lead Engagement Manager for College Mentors for Kids at Virginia Tech, a School of Neuroscience Ambassador, a member of the Dining Services Student Advisory Committee, and a Certified Nurse Assistant for a disabled Hokie! I also work as an undergraduate research assistant in the Bowers Lab studying the neurobiology of language and cognition. After a gap year, I hope to combine my passions for Spanish, healthcare, and serving others as some sort of pediatric physician, preferably in an underserved community.

Hey everybody!  My name is Will Hom, and I'm the College of Engineering Representative on the Honors College Student Council.  I'm currently pursuing a Mechanical Engineering degree with a minor in Computer Science.  Here at Tech, in addition to living in the Honors Residential Commons, I'm a Sigma Phi Delta brother and a member of Chi Alpha.  Outside of school, I enjoy the outdoors, sports, and tinkering.  After graduation, I hope to work on autonomous systems.

I am a Sophomore Geography major on the Honors College Student Council.  I am also involved in VT's Alpine Ski Team, and a member of the Geographic Society.  I love surfing, art, skiing, yoga, and travel.  I hope to become a travel writer for National Geographic after graduating.

Hey everyone, my name is Rachel and I am the rep for the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. I am a senior double-majoring in Animal and Poultry Sciences and Dairy Science hoping to attend veterinary school. This is my first year on the council, but I am in my third year serving as an Honors Peer Advisor. I am a Hokie Ambassador and an ambassador for the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. I am also a member of the Virginia Tech Dairy Judging Team and of Sigma Alpha Professional Agricultural Sorority. I am hoping to increase the presence of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences in the Honors College and am here for anyone’s questions and concerns!

I am pursuing a dual degree in Business Information Technology and Hospitality & Tourism Management. Outside of school, I am a Pamplin Ambassador, a member of the National Residence Hall Honorary, an intern at Virginia Tech’s Women Center, and a Resident Advisor in Hillcrest Hall. I have many career interests and aspirations, and I am confident that a strong background in business will help me achieve them.

Hi everyone! My name is Julia King and I am happy to serve as the College of Architecture and Urban Studies Representative. I am currently a junior in the interior design program in the School of Architecture and Design. When I’m not in studio, I love to travel, stay active, and play soccer. I am also the Speaker Chair for Interior Designers for Education and Sustainability (IDEAS) and a member of Kappa Delta Sorority. After graduation, I hope to find my niche in the interior design field and pave the way to a more functional, beautiful, and sustainable future.

I am a rising junior studying National Security & Foreign affairs with double minors in Arabic & Middle Eastern Studies. I am currently on a Army ROTC commissioning track with the intentions of going into intelligence and eventually working for the Department of the State. Outside of my Corps and ROTC responsibilities, I am a brother of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity and the treasurer of the Arabic Language Club of Virginia Tech.

Hello, World! My name is Allison Woods. I’m a sophomore in Computational Modeling and Data Analytics with minors in Computer Science, Mathematics, and Digital Marketing Strategies. As a member of the Data Bridge team at Newman Library, I am learning how to manipulate, clean, and visualize data for researchers and for fun. This year, I’m a mentee in the Curie Living-Learning Community, and next semester I will serve as an outreach mentor. Some of my other hobbies include swimming, walking dogs for the BARC Club, and volunteering. In the future, I hope to become a data scientist and to combine my interests in data and service to help solve the world’s problems. My experience with Honors College is already helping me reach my goal. I look forward to meeting you all and helping you find your niche here at Virginia Tech!

Hello everyone! My name is Brittany Lawrence and I am the College of Science Representative for the HCSC.  I’m a sophomore majoring in Biochemistry and minoring in Chemistry with a plan to become a pathologist.  As a participant in Dr. Finkielstein’s lab, I am studying how circadian clocks can influence optimal drug administration and how this can be applied to breast cancer research.  I am also a member of Alpha Psi Omega, a theatre honor society, and Baptist Collegiate Ministries.  I currently work at a local CVS Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician in order to learn more about the pharmaceutical industry.  Some of my favorite activities include swimming, reading, taking long walks with my dog, and movie nights with friends.  I am ecstatic to have the opportunity to participate in the HCSC, and I look forward to meeting you all very soon!
